Chem.de is a project of the Chemistry Information Centre (FIZ) Berlin, the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) Hannover. It is supported by several scientific groups and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

The Chemistry Information Centre (FIZ CHEMIE Berlin) is a state-supported non-profit information agency financed by the Federal Government and the Governments of the German States whose primary task is to provide high-quality information services concerning chemistry, chemical engineering and related fields to science, education and industry.
With a staff of high qualified and experienced experts (two-thirds of whom are scientists), the latest electronic data processing and transmission facilities and its products and services, FIZ CHEMIE Berlin in close collaboration with its co-operation partners functions as a central information and documentation centre.

The German Chemical Society (GDCh) is the largest chemical society in continental Europe with 27.000 members from universities, industry and other areas. The GDCh supports chemistry in teaching, research and application and promotes the understanding of chemistry in the public.
The GDCh supports Chem.de by various supplies. The Research and Technology Guide is used for interdisciplinary knowledge transfer and communication between universities, research institutes and industry within German speaking countries. The Faculty Guide also informs about chemistry related courses of study at the participating universities. The GDCh and their subgroups organize various Conferences and Continuing Education. The Job Pool offers the opportunity to search for jobs within the GDCh and other external databases or publish your profile online. The coordination of data bases and publishing of scientific journals complete the scientific range of the GDCh.

The German National Library of Science and Technology in Hannover is a specialised library for all areas of engineering and its basic sciences, in particular chemistry, information technology, mathematics and physics.
In this role the TIB comprehensively acquires and archives literature from around the world pertaining to engineering and the natural sciences. The library places a particular emphasis on acquiring the so-called "grey" literature (conference proceedings, research reports) of its subject areas, which is difficult to acquire and not available in bookshops. The comprehensive holdings are available to users from industry, the business community, and the research and scientific communities through our document delivery service TIBORDER. The TIB is part of several projects on the future-oriented development of technologies for information dissemination.
Within the Chem.de portal the TIB is responsible for the Subject Guide. The Subject Guide provides a comprehensive collection of commented and evaluated high quality internet resources and other digital information in the area of chemistry. Furthermore the TIB integrates its own data collections and external chemical databases into the search module of chem.de.
